The Living Room
Overall, the living room in this home had great bones. We kept the original Saltillo tile to maintain the Spanish style. We removed the tongue and groove panels on the ceiling and re-stained the wood beams to a lighter brown hue, softening the lines and complementing the overall color palette of the home.
The fireplace created a great statement, however, we wanted to modernize the design to have cleaner lines, making it less fluted and ornate. We also re-tiled the hearth with hand painted teracotta tiles to add a subtle custom statement to this large feature. Switching out the lighting fixture to the Mariposa Chandelier available at Market by Modern Nest, added sophisticated and elegant charm to the space.
This room had great natural light with the existing windows and sliding doors, however, we wanted to create a more impactful statement. We designed custom black paned steel windows and doors. We love how this feature elevated the space and overall design of the home to feel more custom and modern.
Last, and certainly not least – a creamy white paint added so much softness and warmth to this space, and served as the backdrop for all of the furnishings we brought in. The room now features warm wood tones, creamy whites, large scale art and an array of dreamy textures in the form of furniture, pillows and a statement rug that unify the space.

The Kitchen
When it came to the kitchen, we wanted to create a moodier aesthetic and really maximize the space with custom features, such as the soft arched range hood with hand painted terracotta tile. We took out some of the walls to open up the space and closed up the windows that weren’t architecturally unique to the style of this home. The white cabinetry was updated with a custom two-toned design, featuring a putty color on the perimeter cabinets and a dark wood stain on the kitchen islands.
Speaking of the kitchen islands – we created two separate pieces to maximize the flow of the space. One features the dishwasher and sink, while the other serves as an area for dining and gathering. Both islands offer a plethora of storage.
We embellished the ceilings with beautiful dark wood beams which were accented with statement lighting, while floating shelves were added to create an intimate moment to display plates, glassware and unique decor pieces that are collected over time. We absolutely love the final look of this space.

The Powder Bathroom
The powder bathroom was quite the transformation. We took out the bathtub and created a shower with a glass door to really open up the space. We added an organic floating limestone sink with exposed brass hardware that created a stunning statement. The walls were accented with Portola Paints Roman Clay. A two-toned hand crafted concrete tile accented the floor, and a two-toned tile adorned the shower walls. We added the green tile to add interest and break up the white tile on the shower walls. We kept the aesthetic moody and monochromatic, staying true to the earthy, old world appeal of Spanish style design.

The Main Bedroom
This house has an amazing outdoor patio, and we really wanted to make that feature accessible for the home owners. To bring the outdoors in and the indoors out, we removed the windows and added custom Arcadia French steel doors. This created a main bedroom that is not only functional, but also a relaxing escape to unwind.

The Main Bathroom
The main bathroom turned out absolutely gorgeous, and quite spa like. We created a focal arched wall with a stunning shower feature that is bookend by separate vanity spaces. We also added in a free standing bathtub, accented with a beautiful natural, un-glazed Zellige tile and brass hardware. Hand-crafted tile selections really made a timeless and stylish statement in this space. For the shower floor tile we used a combination of patterned terracotta and Zellige. We carried the Zellige tiled wall all the way onto the ceiling for some added drama. For the flooring, we incorporated brushed marble. We also added a rustic carved wooden door creating the ultimate Spanish style aesthetic in this home. We love how unique this space turned out.
